It struck me the other evening while Best Friend and I were watching an episode of “The Jeffersons.”  We’ve been on a power-watch kick of this old television program for the past month.

In the episode that evening, Lionel and Jenny are having some marital difficulties, and Lionel moved out temporarily.  The scene began with Jenny in their apartment and she was setting the table for herself.

Yes, just she alone – and it was as it should be:  using the good dishes, the good silverware, a linen napkin, and a placement.

Why did this strike me as interesting?

I am a firm believer in treating oneself, and if the situation is such, treating one’s family as well as company.  You have good china and silverware.  You have napkins and placemats.  You might even have candles and candlesticks.  Why only use them when company comes by?  You and your family are just as – if not more so – important.  Use them.
